Iceland Introduction, Get your Swim on

Fun Fact, This guy was our Hotel clerk at Hotel Holt, 2019

"Swimming" is such a therapeutic event in Iceland. Much like S. Korea or Japan. It is community time and also in Iceland the Thermally heated pools are so good for you.

There are a few things to know and be sure to do:

1. Bring slip-on shoes for going from the locker room to the pool.
2. Bring a towel or two
3. Get naked and take a shower, cleaning your 'all' its required
4. Put your suit on
5. Walk to the pool and get ready for some decisions
A. Go on a slide
B. Swim Laps
C. Hot tub soak
D. Cold tub soak
6. Relax, enjoy your friends, and plan for your next meeting
7. There is a cost, but it's not very expensive
8. I was not expecting to visit Iceland so did not have a swimsuit
I was able to rent one/ buy one at the pool - I didn't though.
9. Do not stand around waiting for your friends, not joining in - it makes the locals nervous
10. After you are done, rinse off, dry off and get dressed.

The water is 37-38* C  which is 98-100 8 F year-round.

Whether it's summer, fall, winter, or early spring you still go to the pool.

We didn't go to the Blue Lagoon, but that is a 'hot' tourist spot. It is blue and has tour buses going there during the summer months.

September 1st - October 31st Reykjavik to Blue Lagoon: 09:00, 11:00, 13:00 & 15:00 Blue Lagoon to Reykjavik: 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 & 20:00

$46.00 USD

Reykjavik Excursions offers great flexibility in Blue Lagoon tours. You can board the bus at BSÍ Bus Terminal in downtown Reykjavík, enjoy all that the Blue Lagoon has to offer, and catch a ride back to Reykjavík when you're done.

Whether you know how to swim or not soaking is such a local experience in Iceland, I highly recommend finding a city pool or asking an employee where they go to relax.

I have been swimming since I was young, very young so any water is fun for me. I am glad I was able to experience it, even if watching from the sign-in desk.

Next time I will swim in Iceland.
